{"id":126,"date":"2007-03-02T11:00:28","date_gmt":"2007-03-02T11:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=126"},"modified":"2008-03-13T19:48:50","modified_gmt":"2008-03-13T19:48:50","slug":"mv-or-millennium-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=126","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;MV&#8221; or &#8220;Millennium Volunteers&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=113\" title=\"blog post\">talked before about Millennium Volunteers<\/a>, wondering what will happen to it and <a href=\"http:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=26\" title=\"blog post\">whether the new organisation V will keep it going as it is<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They are obviously wondering themselves, and have published the outcome of some research carried out last December into the Millennium Volunteers &#8220;brand&#8221;. The intention is to help inform decisions made about what to do with MV going forward. It makes for interesting reading. <\/p>\n<p>On the one hand there was:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Strong preference from young people to refer to &#8220;Millennium Volunteers&#8221; rather than the acronym &#8220;MV&#8221;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, on the other hand, there were comments about changing &#8220;Millennium Volunteers&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>because &#8220;millennium&#8221; is seen as outdated and the use of the word &#8220;volunteering&#8221; puts young people off<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For lots more statistics about the perceptions of MV, the benefits it brings, and thoughts on how the value of volunteer efforts can be measured, have a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mvonline.gov.uk\/index.cfm?contentID=18&#038;itemID=101\" title=\"mvonline.gov.uk\" target=\"_blank\">summary of their findings<\/a> which can be downloaded in PDF form from mvonline.gov.uk.<\/p>\n<p>I guess the jury is still out on the future of MV.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve talked before about Millennium Volunteers, wondering what will happen to it and whether the new organisation V will keep it going as it is.
