Probably the best for all concerned, actually.

Faith is absolutely perfect. She weighed 8lbs (why is that always the first thing people tell you?), and all the tests so far have showed no problems.

Everything started early this morning, at about 3am. And Faith was born at about 10:30am.

Our plans for a relaxing home birth went a little awry. Baby was fine, but Mummy tore an artery during labour and bled. Lots. Over two and half litres, which looks like a lot when it’s going over your sitting room floor.

A little panic, a 999 call, and a ride in an ambulance later, and she was taken into theatre so they could stop the bleeding.

That bit wasn’t so much fun.

But she’s out now, and Mum and baby are both resting. (And the doctors assure us that after some meds, iron tablets, a few blood tranfusions and a couple of nights being observed here in Winchester hospital, Mum should be fine.)

<strike>Photos will follow the next time I go near a computer</strike> (done!). Sadly, I didn’t take as many as I did with Grace immediately after she was born. The panic of watching midwives trying to stop an arterial bleed kinda meant that my camera got forgotten.

No matter, I’m sure I’ll more than make up for that in the days and weeks to come, with hundreds (if not thousands) of photos. 🙂

Welcome to the world, Faith Emily Lane.
