{"id":43,"date":"2006-11-02T22:36:35","date_gmt":"2006-11-02T21:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=43"},"modified":"2006-11-03T04:04:08","modified_gmt":"2006-11-03T03:04:08","slug":"local-authorities-will-have-to-find-stuff-for-kids-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dalelane.co.uk\/blog\/?p=43","title":{"rendered":"Local authorities will have to find stuff for kids to do"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How many times do you hear the argument that young people &#8220;get up to no good&#8221; because they&#8217;re bored, and there&#8217;s &#8220;nothing to do&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.everychildmatters.gov.uk\/youthmatters\/thingstodo\/\" title=\"summary of the bill on everychildmatters\" target=\"_blank\">Education and Inspections Bill<\/a>&#8221; hopes to change that. From January, education authorities will have a duty to make sure that young people in their area have sufficient &#8220;positive leisure-time activities&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>It includes provisions not only to make sure that enough activities are available, but that young people&#8217;s views are taken into account. A pot of money has been set aside to help pay for the creation and promotion of activities and facilities.<\/p>\n<p>I like the idea &#8211; I wonder if we&#8217;ll see a difference? <\/p>\n<p>There is some mention of getting help to develop and deliver activities:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; a local education authority may assist others in the provision of such facilities &#8230; [and] organisation of such activities; [and] the assistance &#8230; may include the provision of financial assistance; (<a title=\"link to the bill\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/cm200506\/cmbills\/134\/06134.1-7.html#j610\">ref<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It will be interesting to see if local authorities work with youth charities on this.
