I helped with the street counts of people sleeping rough carried out in Bath every few months,
performed for the council. It was organised by the Rough Sleepers Unit, together with the Big Issue Foundation
and local shelter, Julian House.
This involved canvassing Bath over the course of a night, searching the city and surrounding area for anyone sleeping rough. The city was divided into sectors, and volunteers searched each sector in pairs. The process took all night, and was repeated every couple of months. The aim was to provide an accurate picture of the state of the homeless problem in Bath, in order to better develop services to support those sleeping rough. I also worked on a similar exercise for the 2001 National Census. External Links
