An elected position, I was responsible for allocating and monitoring the budgets of the
70 Union societies, including authorising expenditures, and providing help and advice
to society treasurers. I also worked with the Sabbatical Treasurer to prepare the annual
budget for the Societies area - including expenditures such as office expenses,
wages, and advertising.
I was also a member of SU Finance Committee where all
Union financial decisions are made.

Societies Executive |
2nd, 4th year |
|
An elected position, I was a member of the Socs Exec committee, which is responsible for
co-ordinating and facilitating the 70 Union societies as a whole. This involved
providing training and guidance for the society officers, chairing Socs GMs, and
organising society events such as the Societies Fair.

1st - 2nd year |

The University's largest Society, with over 800 members. When I joined, it was little
more than a cinema - members would turn up and watch films, but were never really a
part of a society. I introduced a variety of new elements into the society, and got
people involved. I projected films, organised events like All Night Film Shows and
trips to Conferences and the IMAX Cinema in London, ran workshops teaching people how
to project films, organised the budget, planned the advertising and much more.
During this time the society won the
Anderson Consulting Award
for Best Student Society, the Students' Union Award for Best Student Society, and twice
(two years consecutively) won the
British Federation of Film Societies
Award for Best Student Film Society.
