We’re half-way through 2025, which means it’s a good time to check how I’m doing against some of the goals I set for the year.
I wanted to read more this year.
It feels like this one deserves a tick – my Goodreads profile says I’m on my 24th book for the year. More than that, reading has become a habit again – I’m making time to read every week instead of it just being a thing I do on holiday.
Move more
I wanted to be more active – this is a continuation of last year’s attempt to get my health back on track.
While I’ve found it easier to do this as the weather has gotten better, overall I’ve done what I hoped to – with my phone estimating that I’ve walked and ran an average of over 6 miles a day this year. Diet has been a more challenging thing to maintain, so a mixed bag on the health front overall.
Play more video games
Okay, so this one sounds a bit weird. I don’t mean spend more time playing video games (although that’s not a bad goal!). My goal this year was to use the time I spend playing games to play a wider variety of games, and not just resort to jumping into yet another Call of Duty multiplayer map every time.
I think I’ve done a good job of this – my Backloggd profile says I’ve played 79 different games this year. That is more than I would’ve guessed. Some have been high-profile AAA titles (I loved Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle). Some have been interesting smaller titles (like Iconoclasts, Far: Lone Sails, Laika: Aged Through Blood, and Katana Zero). And some have been a bit weird (like Kentucky Route Zero, and Twelve Minutes). I’ve also (finally!) gotten around to discovering classics like Borderlands.
